This is a huge week for the fans of the adventure genre: Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, the first chapter in the new Monkey Island saga has just been launched, and LucasArts promises even more goodies for the adventure fans. Could this be the resurrection of the considered dead genre? We’ll certainly know in several months, if more and more projects are announced.

Until then, we should enjoy the new adventures of Guybrush in Telltale’s episodic approach to the Monkey Island series. In Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, our hero finds himself marooned on a strange island with winds that always blow inward. Add to that the fact that nobody seems to know where LeChuck and Elaine are (maybe together?), where does a strange voodoo pox come from and you’ll have a really nice story to start with!

Dave Grossman, Telltale’s design director and a designer/writer for the original Monkey Island games said about the game: “I was laughing my eyepatch off on a daily basis while we were first cooking up Monkey Island at Skywalker Ranch, but if you’d told me then that it would become a classic, and that twenty years later I’d be working with a killer all-star piratey crew to spin an epic new tale and bring the series to a whole new generation of players, I would have said… well, probably, ‘Look behind you, a three-headed monkey,’ but then I’ve always been a bit weird that way.”

During the next five months, new episodes in the Tales of Monkey Island series will be released by Telltale, but until then, if you decide to order Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal this week, you can choose any other Telltale episode to include with your purchase, for FREE.
