Every now and then an upcoming game for the PlayStation 3 becomes the “console seller” Sony was waiting for a long time: most recently we had LittleBigPlanet which didn’t really put Sony back in the console wars and now we have Killzone 2 – about which is still to early to talk, but early reports are promising. What about the future? Well, the future is God of War 3!
According to Gamasutra, the upcoming God of War 3 is actually really big in terms of “hope” for Sony: one third of the potential buyers don’t own a PS3 yet! This could, in theory, mean that the third would go to the stores and but a PlayStation 3, right? Not really, according to analysts.
“The launch of God of War 3 in late 2009/early 2010 will mark a pivotal moment for Sony. But in order to ensure that this game is a hardware sales driver, the cost of the base-level PS3 will need to be in the same ballpark as the Xbox 360 and Wii,” said OTX Research’s Nick Williams.
Which could be a bit much to anticipate. And there’s another thing: we don’t know how big is that one third, after all…
