In a speech earlier today at the 2013 Technology Conference, EA’s CFO hinted at the possibility of a new Battlefront game.

According to him, “the opportunity to do a new Battlefront, for example, which is one of the very popular Star Wars games or some of the other traditional games that were made, is very exciting.”

Star Wars Battlefront III has been a rather sore point of contention for fans of the series. Following the shutdown of Lucas Art’s development department, details began to surface on the possible third game, with varied reports as to its state of completion.

Given that EA have announced that DICE will be working on Star Wars titles, it’s quite possible that the new Battlefront will be developed by them. DICE have had a lot of experience in the shooter genre, the similarities between Battlefield and Battlefront may aid them if they develop the game.

What’s also interesting is the other “traditional games” mentioned. Series such as Jedi Knight and X Wing received widespread critical acclaim when they were released over a decade ago, and so EA may decide to reboot some of these franchises.
