If there were people waiting for the release of a current-gen paintball simulation game, now is their lucky day since Activision has just released NPPL Championship Paintball 2009, the official National Professional Paintball League game. And, although it does not sound cool at all, the publishers promise we will be surprised.

“NPPL Championship Paintball 2009 is the fantastic end result of a close collaboration between the NPPL, Activision, and top professional paintball players,” said Scott Pierce, NPPL CEO. “No paintball game has ever been this real – it masterfully captures the competitive intensity that makes paintball one of the most popular extreme sports in the world.”

The nice thing about the game is that it offers a career mode, allowing players to go from rookie to pro and become a true paintball legend. Multiplayer modes are also available and these will surely add to the overall entertainment provided by the title. And, who knows? Maybe it can really be a good alternative to all the “real” shooters we’ve played lately…

NPPL Championship Paintball 2009 is available for Xbox 360 and PS3 for $49.99, Wii for $39.99 and PS2 for $29.99.
