Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 will be receiving the action role-playing game on September 9th of this year, but it looks like the next generation of consoles (Xbox One and Playstation 4) will be long released before they get to explore Tristram. Blizzard seems to be trying to get a lot out of the installment considering that it originally shipped for PC/Mac over a year ago in May of 2012.

“The Diablo 3 team has actually just received the new console generation development kits, so the translation to those platforms is yet to be done. They really like the features on the PS4 controller and want to try and do something cool with the trackpad and share button,” is what fans are gathering from interviews. “Diablo 3 will not be a launch date title for the next generation consoles. It will come in 2014.”

Yeah, that’s two years after it’s original release. I think the game will feel quite dated by then and it is doubtful that people will pay $50+ for it. It’s difficult to get too excited about this news, but I can’t help being curious to see how this all plays out. I did not enjoy the original release very much and neither did many of my friends. Everyone seemed to beat the game rather quickly and there was not much replay value after that. Will the console version be more fun? Probably not, but Blizzard does have the opportunity to make something cool as this will not be an identical port of the game from the PC version.
