90 Seconds Of Kingdom Hearts 3 Gameplay Shown

Square Enix has shown off a 90 second gameplay video for their highly anticipated 3rd entry in the Kingdom Hearts franchise at the D23 Expo in Japan. Square Enix finally announced the game back at Sony’s E3 2013 conference, after years of speculation and anticipation. The video showcases plenty of new things as well as returning mechanics.

The video, as seen above, starts out in a familiar setting in the form of Twilight Town. Sora and his compatriots, Donald and Goofy, fight off a handful of recognizable heartless enemies. Particle effects galore, stunning graphics that are most likely only possible on next-gen systems, and a returning musical score are all shown off. What is most interesting though is the summons Sora can now pull off in this 3rd entry. In previous Kingdom Hearts titles Sora had the ability to summon several Disney characters to aid him in battle; and each had their very own skill sets.

It now looks as though these summons will be more extravagant and larger in scale in comparison with past entries. Sora summoned, what seemed like, a whole pirate ship. This particular summon seemed water based as Sora was pulling water attacks. As expected the ship looks stunning.

The video then changed it’s pace by showing off a boss battle between Sora, Donald, and Goofy and the Rock Titan from Disney’s Hercules. Yet again the battle was much larger in scale than mostly anything the series has been able to pull off thus far. The trio were riding a roller coaster named Big Magic Mountain, perhaps taken from one of Disney World’s actual rides, while fighting off the Titan. Square has already showcased their intentions to utilize cinematic camera shots, as the camera pulled in and out several times throughout the battle. The video concluded with Sora directing the coaster towards the Rock Titan.

Square has stressed that this 90 second video is only a showcase of early development and is not indicative of the final product. With Tetsuya Nomura, series creative director, busy with Final Fantasy 15 don’t expect this 3rd entry to arrive anytime soon. The game has been confirmed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Square also recently announced the HD 2.5 Remix collection that will be hitting store shelves sometime next year.
