Square Enix has announced Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix, which will be available exclusively on the PS3 in 2014. The follow up compilation to Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix, which was released early last month, will include the final mix versions of both Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. Kingdom Hearts Re: coded will also be included, but it will receive the same HD cut scene only treatment as 358/2 Days.
This marks the first time both final mix versions of Kingdom Hearts 2 and Birth by Sleep will be released outside of Japan. The decision to release this collection was due to the commercial success of HD 1.5 remix. The release for HD 2.5 remix was also hinted at in the final credits of the previous compilation, which included three specific cut scenes for the three games included in this bundle.
It has also been revealed, on a PS Blog post, that the first Kingdom Hearts game has officially sold 20 million units worldwide; with the help of the HD 1.5 remix bundle of course.
The decision to opt for a PS3 only release is an interesting choice, as the PS4 will be several months old by the time this collection releases sometime in 2014. But nevertheless this highly anticipated collection is now a reality for KH fans, and should do well to quench their thirst until the impending arrival of Kingdom Hearts 3.
