yves-guillemotAlthough their games catalog doesn’t quite prove that, Ubisoft likes sports games very much – so much actually that they wish to develop even more sports titles who, apparently, sell very well: at least that’s their conclusion after selling over 2 million copies of Shaun White Snowboarding. And having in mind that there are basically just about two companies developing for each sports genre (EA and 2K Games, with Konami joining in with PES), there’s clearly room to grow here.

And that’s exactly what Ubisoft plans to do, according to the company’s CEO Yves Guillemot who said to MCV: “Working with Shaun White has been great and I think that shows in the fun and excitement of the game when you play it. This is definitely an area in which we plan to grow our presence.”

Guillemot admitted that sports is a difficult genre to break into, but they’re willing to take the risk. IT was totally worth it with Shaun White Snowboarding, they might get lucky with other titles (and us as well). Therefore the company will remain on the lookout for possible studios for acquisition which could help the transition to the sports genre. Let’s hope they’ll do a good job.
