Ubisoft just announced that they’re working on a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video game – the first in the series which is not tied to a movie, which might actually be a very good thing for gamers. The new TMNT game is intended to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the comic book and it appears to be a Wii-only title developed by Game Arts, the company who worked on the successful Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
“We’re really excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first TMNT comic and we have a number of radical ‘Shell-ebration’ events planned for 2009,” said Gary Richardson, CEO of Mirage Studios. “The awesome new video game that Ubisoft will release in 2009 is an important part of celebrating this Turtles milestone with fans around the world.”
Ubisoft plans to release the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game this fall. Various reports suggest that the title of the game might be TMNT: Smash up and it will feature four-player game modes. Hopefully the developers will offer a bit more details in the near future.
