disney-buys-marvelThere might be a little earthquake ready to hit the gaming world after the news that Disney is close to sealing a deal that will buy them the entire Marvel Entertainment for the “low” sum of $4 billion! The deal is, according to mmorpg.com close to be signed, with both companies’ boards having agreed upon the deal and awaiting for the OK of the board members – an OK that is likely to be given soon.

So… how will Disney buying Marvel Entertainment affect the gaming world? That is hard to say at the moment, but there might be some changes. For starters, we might see in the future the release of more family-friendly computer and video games released by Disney and taking advantage of the huge line-up of beloved superheroes. Also, the already in development MMO game by Gazillion Entertainment, based on the Marvel world of superheroes might also see some changes which if done well and well thought, might give a boost to the game. However, it is still early to consider the impact this deal might have on the games industry in the future.

But we do know what Marvel thinks about this whole deal:

“Disney is the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses,” said Ike Perlmutter, Marvel’s Chief Executive Officer. “This is an unparalleled opportunity for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing Disney’s tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world.”
