Expect Surprise Xbox One Announcements At VGX

Xbox OneAt this years VGX, formerly known as the Video Game Awards, Microsoft are preparing plenty of announcements in regards to new software content for the Xbox One.

Microsoft’s Phil Spencer, in an interview with Polygon, teased that they have a lot of news they plan on revealing. “We’ve got a lot of news, he said. Frankly, we’ve got enough news that our E3 would be a little overloaded if we kept everything for that. We’re being real thoughtful about the news that people want to hear and also the right time to announce games so that we’re not too early.”

Spencer also briefly touched upon existing IPs, more notably Remedy’s Quantum Break. “Maybe VGX would be a good place for that.” Spencer is hoping to talk about the game in 2013, at any rate. “It may be before the end of the year when we talk more about what the story and the gameplay is [for Quantum Break]…. We have a pretty good piece that I’m trying to coerce people into putting out before the end of the year … showing the full Remedy vision, with Sam [Lake] giving a pretty good description of how the game works with some new gameplay footage.”

As for whatever Black Tusk Studios is working, a new Gears of War game, and even Insomnia’s Sunset Overdrive. Spencer quelled any excitement for all three titles. Black Tusk is still in early stages of developing their game, a new Gears game is out of the question for now, and while Spencer did play a small demo of Sunset Overdrive, he stressed that it is not yet ready to be shown.

Spencer did reveal that the title is coming along great, “We’re playing a full section of the game and feeling really good about the open world gameplay that they’ve put together.”

The VGX will be shown on December 7th. The nominations have already been revealed.
