falloutJust a little while ago I was asking you to debate about the future of Fallout 3, but Bethesda hurried to let us know what’s going on – or at least give us a few hints. Therefore, in what I would call a surprise announcement, Bethesda revealed the name of their next project: Fallout: New Vegas, but didn’t give too many details about it.

So it is unclear at the moment if we are talking about something we could call “Fallout 4” or just an expansion of the current game. Having in mind that it’s set to be released next year, I’d go for the expansion, but one can never know.

However, one thing is clear: development will be handled by Obsidian Entertainment, the people behind Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Neverwinter Nights II, and the same people (or a bunch of them) who worked on the first two Fallout games. And this makes us wonder if Fallout: New Vegas will be a “back to the basics” type of game, looking more like the first two in the series. It would be a confusing move, so I doubt it could happen.

Although details about this project, as you can see, don’t really exist, Obsidian’s J.E. Sawyer confirmed that he is the project leader: “”Yes. I’m the project director and lead designer. I can’t complain,” said Sawyer over at RPGcodex.

Also, over at Shacknews a Bethesda rep said about Obsidian: “They have experience doing this kind of thing, they have guys that worked on the original Fallout games. We really liked their idea for what it is they wanted to do, and we just said, ‘Okay'”

So we know it’s a really likeable idea, but that’s about everything. However, I’m feeling the excitement. Do you?
