brutal-legendWhen Activision and Blizzard merged, one of the several dropped game projects was Brutal Legend, an action adventure title developed by Double Fine Productions, who were still recovering from the disappointing release of Psychonauts. Apparently Activision was not sure that the developers can come up with a quality product (or maybe there were other reasons involved) but they did refuse to take on the game.

However, since it still is a promising project, Brutal Legend was soon picked up by Electronic Arts who were planning to release the game this year. Apparently, Activision changed its mind about the project and now threatens to sue EA since the publishers believe that EA’s deal with Double Fine Productions is invalid. According to Variety, Activision believes that, even though they never had any plans to release the game, they still own the publishing rights.

However, according to the same report, Electronic Arts is not at all concerned: “ We doubt that Activision would try to sue. That would be like a husband abandoning his family and then suing after his wife meets a better looking guy,” a source said. Better looking or not, they would better clear things out and deliver Brutal Legend as planned later this year. There are lots of people eagerly anticipating it.
