Update: GTAV 360 Install Problems Solved

Rockstar’s support page details the solution to the installation problem Rockstar have warned against a couple of days ago. The company issued a warning for Xbox 360 owners to not install the “play” disc for GTAV. Grand Theft Auto V comes in two separate discs for the 360 version. One is a required  8gb install disc, while the other is used to play the actual game. The “play” disc, when installed, will cause severe performance issues. Here are the details outlining the solutions:

For Xbox 360, Grand Theft Auto V will ship on two discs; Disc 1 will be used for a one-time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game. After the install, players will be able to enjoy both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online without any need to switch discs.

This initial install will require an Xbox 360 Hard Drive or an external 16GB USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space. If using a USB flash drive it must be at least USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use. A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance.

It seems that a USB hard drive is required to fix the issues. There are no further details about incoming patches for this problem; fingers crossed it’ll be a reality.

Grand Theft Auto V is set to make over $1 billion in sales for Rockstar in the first month alone. The long awaited open-world game launched midnight today. It is available for the 360 and PS3.
