We’ve seen the hottest 10 PC games coming in 2010, now we have to turn our eyes towards the world of MMO games, one that keeps growing, both players and products-wise. 2010 promises to be a great year for massively multiplayer online games, with some really hot and revolutionary games being released throughout the year. Read on to find out the titles of the MMOs that will most likely become real hits this year: the top five new MMOs expected to rock in 2010!

5. DC Universe Online

Superheroes, super powers, super game – that’s what the Sony-developed MMORPG promises to deliver its fans by the end of April this year. Add to that a free-to-play model (based on microtransactions or DLC) and tons of your favorite heroes and villains (with examples like Batman, Bat Girl, Flash, Raven, Superman, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Ra’s al Ghul) and you’ll have a few reasons to hope that Sony will strike lucky and deliver us a high quality MMORPG. So put this game on your most wanted list right now!

4. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

Although not a MMORPG itself, this is a major expansion Blizzard is preparing for their hit MMO and such an expansion is always on the “most wanted” list. Amongst the things that will be introduced by the Cataclysm expansion we have two new races, new combinations, an increased level cap and hosts of new areas to explore and conquer, plus many more, so this is clearly becoming one of the must have expansions for the millions of WoW players. And the only reason why it doesn’t top our list is that, as I said already, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is not a brand new MMORPG.

03-apb3. APB: All Points Bulletin

Just think “Grand Theft Auto MMO” and you’ll know why this is a game you’ll certainly have to get your hands on! Created by the man behind the original GTA game as well as Crackdown, All Points Bulletin will take us in a fictional city where cops fight bad guys continuously – which is enough to start with. Add to that the fact that your own skill will determine your character’s progression (as opposed to the classic XP points awarding in traditional MMOs) and you’ll have a game where the best players will finally be the most skilled ones, and not those who can play 24/7.

04-sto2. Star Trek Online

Well, the “battle” between the Trekkers and the Star Wars fanboys will continue in the MMO area as well since this year will be delivering a MMO for each side. Star Trek Online doesn’t grab the first position as the most anticipated new MORPG this year, but it will certainly prove to be a blast and hopefully will be able to take us where no other MMO has gone before. Add to that space ships, the possibility to beam down (and up) for face to face confrontation and entire galaxies to explore and you’ll know that, no matter if you’re a fan of the TV and movie series, you’ll have to at least try Star Trek Online when it hits stores this February!

05-swtor1. Star Wars: The Old Republic

And the most anticipated MMO of 2010 award goes to Star Wars: The Old Republic, a game that certainly made most of the computer game fans dream: the game is the result of the immagination of BioWare (Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins) and it promises to change the way MMOs are played: highly customizable classes, fully voiced in-game characters, different storylines locked and unlocked basing on the players’ styles of play and much more. In other words: some really nice promises that we certainly hope to see implemented flawlessly. Let’s just hope for the best and… may the Force be with you!

Which of these MMO games is the one you’re most looking forward to play in 2010?

  1. I think the most anticipated MMO for me is as what the OP has ranked (SW:TOR), but I find it strange not to include Final Fantasy XIV on the list (It could be the 2nd most anticipated on my list).

  2. STO is the worst MMO I’ve ever seen released. Why is it even on this list? Cryptic mucked that up so bad they should just close up shop and send us all our money back. Oh wait they have SOE execs behind it all. Now it makes sense….
