It was a while ago when Google decided to try its hand at online gaming and Second Life cloning and it created Lively, a pretty interesting concept that was considered to skyrocket Google’s AdSense for Games program. But it was not the case, since Google has just announced that they will be shutting down Lively by the end of the year.

Although we can’t say we’re really surprised, since ever since the game’s beta stage was announced, I’ve never heard anything about it (Second Life is a big name to beat, even if you are Google), but it’s still a kind of a shocker: I’m sure that, if they really wanted, the giants would’ve been able to promote it and make a success out of it. But, they considered Lively dead weight, since according to the official post, they plan to “ensure that we prioritize our resources and focus more on our core search, ads and apps business”.

So, if you’re one of the Lively users that has their own room they love in the game, it would be wise to start taking as many snapshots as possible, as well as videos. Who knows, maybe in 10 years they’ll be worth a lot, since there will not be too many people to say to their kids “when I was your age, there was this thing called Google Lively… that died!”
