l4d2Even though at first the announcement of the game was followed by an angry army of gamers trying to boycott the game, Left 4 Dead 2 still managed to win our hearts with it’s high quality and sold 2 million copies in the first two weeks – at retail only (meaning that Steam figures aren’t taken into account, and those should be huge too!).

“Left 4 Dead 2 is off to a great start with strong support at retail and great reviews from the press,” said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. “Meanwhile the title has already been played by over 1 million Xbox LIVE Gold account holders, and news regarding L4D2 DLC 1 is coming very soon.”

The sale numbers recorded by Left 4 Dead 2 just a couple of weeks after the launch of the game are already double compared to the retail copies sold of the first Left 4 Dead game, so I think it’s safe for us to say that the release was a really successful one!
