The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 fever has caught Amazon.com as well – but fortunately we’re talking about a good fever: the huge portal is searching for the “Call of Duty-est” town in America, and it’s also packing a huge prize for the winner. So if you’re wondering what exactly Amazon has in mind, here’s the explanation, in their own words:

“Amazon.com’s Call of Duty-est Town in America promotion features the towns that have the highest percentage of Release-Date Delivery COD:MW2 pre-orders. To calculate, we are using the most recent U.S. Census data for U.S. towns and cities with a population of more than 5,000 people, that have ordered enough copies for two squads (18 people) using Release-Date Delivery.“

The winning town will be awarded a $5,000 Amazon.com gift card that will go to a charitable organization of the website’s choice in the winning town. The winner will be announced at noon on Modern Warfare’s release date (November 10th), but the “battle” can be followed almost live with hourly updates on the Amazon.com website.

At the moment of writing, the Call of Duty-est towns are Grand Forks, North Dakota – first; Idaho Falls, Idaho – second; and Athens, Ohio – third. It’s worth noting that the first two placed are new entries, so the charts will certainly change a lot until the release date of the game. So… who do you think is going to win?
