This year’s TGS kicks off with a few surprise announcements from Koei who’s taking steps to new directions (read “portable devices”) with their already famous franchises. For example, the biggest news for PSP owners and Dynasty Warriors fans alike is that Koei will Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce, a PSP exclusive, sometime in 2009. Who would’ve thought that?

Developed by renowned in-house studio Omega Force, the PSP exclusive promises to bring us a host of surprises, too. For example, it’s the first game in the series that will not put us in the shoes of a lonesome warrior, but a member of a Strikeforce team. The best part? Up to four human players can join together to create this team!

Also, it appears that Koei plans to bring us some vertical action, too since Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce will now allow for battles up in the sky, as well as the classic settings (castles, towers and so on). With both single-player and multi-player quests, new “air” fighting techniques, radical character customization, new challenges to conquer, and downloadable content, the PSP exclusive promises to change the way gamers experience the Dynasty Warriors universe. We’re wondering if something similar will happen with the home console versions too.
