Incredible or not, next year Pac-Man will celebrate its 30th birthday and Namco, the creators of the legend, are planning a big party. Of course, in our world, this means that we’re going to receive a new Pac-Man game – one with former Sonic Team and Naughty Dog designer Hirokazu Yasuhara at the helm.
“As a group, we feel like we should do something to make him come back,” Namco Bandai’s US COO Makoto Iwai said to Gamasutra. “So, there’s one project that we started working on, and [Yasuhara is] part of it.”
Iwai also said that the game is being developed in North America and I’m sure everybody is waiting to see how will the new team handle the pressure and what improvements can be delivered – I must admit that there are not many new things I can think of for one to implement in a new Pac-Man game while still keeping the original feel. But I’m sure we’ll see sometime next year what will happen exactly. Stay tuned with Unigamesity for more details, as soon as we have them.
