Riot Games is currently shutting down the League of Legends Europe West servers to perform a hardware update. The EUW servers are known for being unstable and the company has has been trying to fix most of the issues by updating the  databases. Riot Eglorain, Network Ops Technician, explained the purpose of today’s extended maintenance:

Following up on the incident of the 18th of November, we will be swapping one of EUW’s Platform databases for new hardware, which will allow us to address some remaining concerns.

This procedure is part of a series of maintenance sessions that has been replacing and upgrading all the old hardware parts of EUW. The objective is to improve the overall performance of the servers, as well as providing a better service.The servers should be back by the beginning of the morning and all queues will be resumed, including ranked matches.
