Either way, this is the list of 10 most costly games (and game collections) on Amazon:
1. Driving Simulator – SIMURIDE: strangely, at the top of the list we don’t have a classic game, a real collectible. We have a virtual driving simulator that teaches driving automatic and manual transmission vehicles. Prices range from $479 to $629, so we can say that learning how to drive nowadays is as expensive as the gas.
2. Interplay ALL-NIGHTER Collection: is the number two, costing “only” $392.4. I have no idea what are the 4 cents for… Either way, this is at least a collection of great games from Interplay: Cyberia, SimCity Enhanced, Frankenstein: Through The Eyes Of The Monster, Blackthorne, Castles II Siege & Conquest and four Battle Chess games. All on four MS-DOS CD-Roms. It would probably make your grandpa happy.
3. Tonic Trouble: our bronze medal winner is another strange entry. One of the worst Rayman games ever, a title even fans of the franchise probably hate (if they have heard about it), Tonic Trouble still costs a hefty $392.04. At least this one runs on Windows XP…
4. Celtica: and yet another unexpectedly high priced product, and probably the reason why point and click adventures are dead: even the worst games of the genre cost so much! Celtica, for example, will take $300 out of your pocket and it won’t deliver too much in exchange. Or so say the few people that actually tried or heard about this game…
5. Roberta Williams Anthology: finally, a product that deserves its $290 price tag! Including classic Sierra titles like KING’S QUEST I-VII, Mystery House, Wizard and the Princess, Mission: Asteroid, Time Zone, The Dark Crystal, The Colonel’s Bequest, The Dagger of Amon Ra, and Mixed-Up Mother Goose, plus the 1st Chapter of Phantasmagoria, this anthology is indeed a must have for the fans of adventure games. At least it offers a whole lot of extra playing time compared to Celtica…
6. In the Groove and Dance Pad: for $273.95 you will receive the In The Groove game and a Dance Pad that can also be used on PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and Xbox consoles. Weee! So if you’re up for some dancing, moving and jumping, go grab this “amazing” product. Or simply go to a club. It’s a lot cheaper and it could also get you a date…
7. World of Warcraft Collector’s Edition: this is really a classic. Purchasing the new, original copy, would set you back $1,999.99, but you can also go for the used versions which are cheaper, starting $259.99. You will get an exclusive in-game pet, a 200 page art book, a Behind the Scenes DVD and one month of free subscription (at least for the new version).
8. Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Collectors Edition: another Collector’s Edition, a lot cheaper this time: the new one costs just $199.99. And it has an impressive product offering: 9 Games on Cd-rom: Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, Champions of Krynn, the Dark Queen of Krynn, Death Knights of Krynn, Gateway to the Savage Frontier, Treasures of the Savage Frontier, Pools of Darkness. So for the real hardcore DnD fans, this might be something like the next big thing. I will pass, though.
9. Heroes of Might and Magic Complete Edition: this is the only product on this list I would actually purchase if I had the money. It features a collection of all the HoMM games, from one through 5 and it only costs $199.95. The package also includes the Art of Might and Magic and an exclusive The Dark Messiah Map plus three audio CDs and a bonus DVD. A real gem here!
10. Ground Control 2 Pre-Sell Demo: And at number ten we have a game demo! One that “only” costs $183.79, but I won’t say too much about it because that might be what EA or Activision are waiting: to charge for the demos, too.
All in all, the 10 most expensive games and game collections on Amazon are generally surprises, products I wouldn’t have expected to see for such prices. What do you think though? Would you purchase any of these products for so much money?
