Renting games instead of buying them is slowly becoming a trend because, naturally, people prefer spending less money for the same game experience (and I tend to predict that this will be one of the reasons why single player gaming will soon become extinct). If you were wondering which were the games people rented the most during the past year, Rentrak has made list. So the ten most rented games in 2008 are:

1. GTA IV (Xbox 360)
2. CoD 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360)
3. Halo 3 (Xbox 360)
4. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (Xbox 360)
5. Army of Two (Xbox 360)
6. Mario Kart Wii (Wii)
7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)
8. Fallout 3 (Xbox 360)
9. Assassin’s Creed (Xbox 360)
10. Mario Party 8 (Wii)

As you can see in the charts above, there are a few really interesting things to note. First, CoD 4 and Halo 3 are the second and third placed, even though the games were released in 2007 (which proves once again how popular they are). Two other games released in 2007 made it to the list, Assassin’s Creed and Mario Party 8, but these are the bottom two titles.

Also, as you can see, there is no PS3 game in the top 10 list, which either proves a lack of popularity of the console or the fact that PlayStation 3 users prefer buying the games instead of renting. It would be very interesting if we had any data regarding this issue, but we don’t and all we can do is speculate. Either way, it’s really strange not to see a single PS3 title there…
