Bungie’s Job with Halo 3 Is Over

master-chiefWe could consider this a strange and unexpected statement, but it might be happening for real: Bungie will be waving Halo 3 goodbye after the release of Halo 3: ODST, one of the hottest 10 Xbox 360 games of the year. The announcement was made by Brian Jarrard, Bngie’s Community Director in an interview with IGN.

Asked if new maps will still be made for Halo 3 after the release of the ODST expansion, Jarrard said: “We are viewing the ODST campaign and the included multiplayer maps as the final exclamation point in our ongoing efforts to extend the Halo 3 experience. We’re really grateful to our fans for standing by Halo 3 for so long and continuing to show us such strong support.“

This could mean that Bungie might stop developing extra content for Halo 3 after the release of the expansion, but this could also mean that their work with the franchise will end… with that exclamation mark. Hard to believe, though, that the company will give up on such a popular game. Even more – even if they do – Microsoft will surely dislike the idea and if Bungie is indeed waving Halo goodbye for new projects, another developer will surely jump in.

But all this is just speculation. Probably we’ll know exactly what are Bungie’s plans as soon as Halo 3: ODST is released.
