Although not really a huge surprise, judging from the immense success the original game had, but Ubisoft has officially announced the development of Assassin’s Creed 2, but details on the sequel are pretty scarce. However, there are rumors in the industry that the game aims for a holiday 2009 release – and it sounds like a very solid judgment.

The announcement came during a conference call during the first half of the 2008 fiscal year reports, when an Ubisoft exec said simply that the company is “working hard on the product”. And that should be no surprise, since the original Assassin’s Creed enjoyed a great success, and there were reports in the past about Altair taking swimming lessons.

Also, during the earnings reports, Ubisoft said it saw a 31.5% rise in profits compared to last year (about $430 million). According to the reports, more than a third of the income was generated by casual titles, but the main reason for the success was considered to be Far Cry 2 who sold over one million copies in less than three weeks. Well… just wait and see what will Assassin’s Creed 2 do!
