x360Last year was a great one for Microsoft and the Xbox 360, as you could easily imagine following our previous report regarding the 8 million Xbox consoles sold during the last holiday season. But that was not all, since all year long people kept buying Xbox 360s and creating XBL accounts, driving the life-to-date unit sales of Xbox 360 systems to 28 million consoles worldwide!

According to Microsoft, this improved the lead over Sony’s PlayStation 3 by 8 million units and they don’t see their sales diminishing this year either! Or at least they hope so – only on Xbox Live were spent more than $1 billion dollars since the console was launched. And people say there’s a tough economy out there…

Between Christmas and New Year’s Day, Xbox Live experienced its busiest week ever, with a record of more than 1.5 million concurrent members online: the recently released NXE (New Xbox Experience) was part of the success, combined of course with ever popular multiplayer titles like Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and GTA IV.
