We’ve got some great news for fans of Jules Verne’s fiction: Microids have decided to create a new game based on the successful novel The Mysterious Island. Coming as a direct sequel to the 2005 point and click adventure Return to Mysterious Island, the second iteration will be released in March 2009.

So people who were always fascinated by survival in the wild techniques (but not only) will be pleased to hear that surviving on the mysterious island plays an important part in the upcoming game. Also, you’ll have to save the island from an environmental disaster because a game is not a “real game” unless you become a hero and save something – anything!

Return to Mysterious Island 2 begins with the crash of the helicopter that came to rescue Mina in the previous version of the game. She survived but is once again trapped on the island, but there are some other things she has to worry about: pollution threatens the island and there’s only one way of saving it: by turning on the shields and therefore locking herself on the island. Will Mina do it? Probably you will decide.

Return to Mysterious Island 2 will have a host of new features, like two character gameplay, comic styled cinematics and dialogs, iPhone gameplay support and data sharing modules. But these technical details will matter the least when we’ll have such a great island to explore! Just check the official website and see for yourself!
