Details regarding the final installment of the FF XIII arc were released today. The game will be entitled Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and North America can expect to see it on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on February 14th of next year.  It looks absolutely gorgeous and a trailer was also released that you can check out here.

The game is designed to be “world driven”, with a lively world where different events happen whether or not you are there to witness them. This reminds me of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and how well that game implemented a similar concept. For those playing onward from FFXIII-2, the story will continue following Lightning on her adventure. The combat system is said to be similar to the previous games, but will allow for the player to have more control of Lightning.

More details are to be released at E3, but what we have so far looks really polished. I enjoyed what I played of FF XIII and this is motivating me more to play through XIII-2 as well. I am shocked to see games like this being set to come out for the PS3 when the PS4 and new Xbox system should be out by then. It looks like both Sony and Microsoft will continue supporting the previous generation of systems with solid releases before concentrating their energy on next-gen.
