2014 has so much to get you excited

2014 has so much to get you excited

With 2013 drawing coming to an end, gamers everywhere are looking at what there is to follow a great year that 2013 has certainly been. Great games for every kind of gamer and the new consoles have made 2013 one to remember. 2014 has a lot to live up to but right now it looks like it may be even bigger and better. The list of games that have been announced so far is sensational and with the year not even started yet we are sure to hear of more before long. New IPs, sequels to die for and with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all trying to give you reasons to buy a next-gen console there is so much to look forward to, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Next-Gen Exclusives

A new console war is in full effect. Arguments and fanboy comments are to be expected but the most exciting thing about a console war is the games that come of it. With Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all pushing their new hardware, it is the games that sell consoles. With so many exclusives incoming that unless you are very lucky you will be unlikely to be able to play them all but even if you only buy one new console this year they all have something to offer.

The Xbox ONE has had the better launch game line-up and with more exclusive to come it will keep those that support the system happy all year. Titanfall is the heavy hitter early in the year with many looking at the new game from Respawn Entertainment as a possible step forward in a genre that has not changed in over 6 years. Later in the year players have Halo 5 to look forward to as one of the biggest game franchise out there puts it’s first foot forward into a new generation. 2 new big IPs in Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break both look very exciting and with both being made by developers with good games in there pasts they are both looking like must buys for Xbox ONE owners. Add these 4 big titles to the multiple indie titles and the many new features and applications that are set to be introduced the first year of the consoles life is looking very promising.

The PlayStation 4 has so many indie games on the horizon it is difficult to keep track of them all but there seems to be something for everyone in that department. Infamous: Second Son is the big game for the first part of the year that is getting fans of the series very excited. Despite not having much information, the end of the year is shaping up to be a big one for Sony if they are releasing both The Order 1886 and Uncharted 4 which are both to be big hits.

Nintendo have a lot to do this year. They had some good moments in 2013 with some of the games the released but the WiiU has under performed and has been pushed aside by most in favour of the competition. But as always they do have some big exclusives on the way that should help the console push on and hopefully do better than this year. Bayonetta 2 is a core game that may turn into a good system seller for the WiiU after the success of the first game. Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Brothers and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze are all big names for Nintendo fans and will certainly help sales. Nintendo remain the kings of handheld gaming as well and with multiple titles here as well, along with the recent release of the cheaper 2DS the future may start to look brighter especially after a good end to 2013.

New IPs for Everyone

Exclusives are one thing but the amount of exciting new titles that available to the majority of gamers is breathing new life to the industry. The indie market is getting bigger and bigger and the quality of the titles is something to behold. Giving every type of gamer out there something new and cheaper than a triple A title while still providing hours of entertainment. There are a lot of big new games to come as well. Elder Scrolls Online, Destiny, Dying Light, Mad Max, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Tales of the Borderlands, Game of Thrones, The Division, South Park: The Stick of Truth and Watchdogs. The list goes on and on that whatever genre of gaming you enjoy 2014 has something new for you.

Sequels we actually want

There has always been a stigma that sequels are a not as exciting as new games but in 2014 there are a huge amount to look forward to. Dark Souls 2, Dragon Age: Inquisition, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2, new episodes of The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead Season 2 along with Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are all big titles that have gamers excited for sequels again. Along with reboots of Thief and Wolfenstein 2014 has really does have something for everyone.

Of course we will also have the annual franchises that we see every year. Every sports game under the sun will all hopefully take a step forward into real next-gen titles. Call of Duty will return but with Ghosts not being as well received as perhaps they thought it would and with a lot of competition coming from all angles in the FPS market then I would like to see COD take significant steps forward too. We also have Assassins Creed. Black Flag was well received by most and Ubisoft should move forward with what that and improve all areas of the game for a new generation but with the release of Watchdogs it is unclear if we will even see one this year which would be a good thing for the series to have a break.

We also have the rise of eSports. Games are becoming more and more competitive and being played at a high level that is creating a whole new area of the gaming industry. With FPS games, fighting games, strategy games along with the big names like League of Legends and DOTA 2 there is so much high level gaming out there and with easy access to all these games that if you want to get into the gaming scene or simply enjoy the show that some really amazing players put on.

Dota2

With so much to look forward to 2014 may be one of the best in recent memory. More games will be announced and information will be released and shown off about all the games that we know about. Throughout the year there are big name titles coming thick and fast that for sure makes it a great time to be a gamer.
