A Vampyre Story – PC Review

A Vampyre Story – PC Review

vampyre-story05 The visuals in the game are simply amazing, especially the beautifully designed (and hand-made) backgrounds. All the backgrounds are insanely detailed and throughout the game you will never feel you’ve seen an “empty” space somewhere. The characters, on the other hand, failed to impress me – the character style used in A Vampyre Story is not at all my style and Mona seems to lack that extra bit of something to turn her into a gaming icon, or a character you’ll always remember (like Guybrush Threepwood in the Monkey Island series, like Kate Walker in Syberia or April Ryan in TLJ).

The sound in A Vampyre Story is cheerful, cartoonish and very well done, fitting the story perfectly and adding an extra bit of joy and savor to the players. Again, I totally disliked the voice of the main character – not the voice acting, just the voice. I found it annoying, but that can’t be considered a problem with the game – I am sure most of the people who will play the game will find Mona’s voice quite charming!

vampyre-story06Conclusion

For a game I’ve been waiting since 2004, A Vampyre Story fails to impress. As a point and click adventure game, however, Autumn Moon’s title is solid, entertaining, complete and complex. It looks beautiful, it’s challenging enough to keep your brain working all the time, it will definitely make you laugh at least every now and then and, overall, it is one of the best – if not the best – point and click adventure games of the year. It is a game veteran players will enjoy playing, while newcomers will find it a challenge – so if you loved the Monkey Island series, you will definitely love A Vampyre Story as well.
