world-of-warcraft-aWorld of Warcraft is the biggest MMORPG in the world and there are no signs its growth will stop anytime soon – on the contrary! Blizzard has announced that now there are over 11.5 million active subscriptions in WoW and numbers are still growing.

Blizzard considers that the most important reason behind the recent growth in numbers is the recently released expansion Wrath of the Lich King, which became the fastest-selling PC game of all time with 2.8 million copies sold in the first 24 hours only – now sales being a bit over four million.

“We’re pleased to welcome the new and returning players who have helped World of Warcraft reach these new milestones, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and support that the game’s global community has continued to show,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We look forward to providing all of them with an excellent entertainment experience for a long time to come.”

So it seems that not only all the “WoW killers” have failed, but the games didn’t even manage to stop the growth of the biggest PC game ever, World of Warcraft. And Blizzard must be extremely happy with that!
