Stick of Truth saw the majority of its sales on the Xbox 360 with 53%. The PlayStation 3 version managed 41% whilst the PC version, the only way to play the game in Europe in its uncensored glory, managed 6% of the sales, according to Chart Track.
The success of the game makes it the first RPG to hit number one in its first week on sale since Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch managed the feat back in February 2013.
Elsewhere in the charts, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare rose up to third this week, helping to knock down The LEGO Movie Videogame to fourth.
FIFA 14 dropped down to fifth, whilst Call of Duty: Ghosts is out of the top five for the first time since its release, coming in at sixth this week.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is able to gain a place in the charts as it rises to seventh, with Battlefield 4 ending up in eighth.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes slipped two places down to ninth, whilst Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag rounds off the top 10 this week.
Elsewhere in the charts the only other new release for the week, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures managed to clock in at 21st.
