Retailing at £79.99/€89.99, the Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 will feature 7.1 virtual surround sound as well as a noise cancelling microphone. It will be released on the 10th February, according to a post on the PlayStation Blog.
Battery life is pegged at eight hours by Sony, whilst it is also compatible with the PS3, PC or Mac as well as PS4. You can also use it with your PS Vita with the headset including a 3.5mm stereo mini jack.
The Wireless Stereo Headset will also include a companion app, which allows you to include custom sounds designed by the developers of games to enhance the gameplay of certain games. The first game which will include this feature is inFamous Second Son. It will also include a number of pre-set audio modes for music and movies, as well as games.
The Headset Companion is to be available for free later this month on the PlayStation Store, and will also be available through an update to the PS3’s PULSE Manager App.
The firmware update (version 1.60), which comes out tomorrow (4th February), brings compatibility support to allow the PS4 to run the new headset, the PULSE Wireless Stereo Headset as well as the original Wireless Stereo Headset. This update also adds in voice chat and 7.1 virtual surround sound to the console.
What are your thoughts on this new headset? Are you glad to see the compatibility update for the PULSE headsets arrive?
