God of War IIIn early November we reported that long time Sony Santa Monica employee, and creative director behind God of War: Ascension Toddy Papy left the studio and moved to Germany. It is now revealed that Papy has officially joined Ryse: Son of Rome and Cyrsis developer Crytek, who are also located in Germany.

On Papy’s LinkedIn profile (via All Games Beta), it states that Papy joined Crytek as Game Director in November and that he’s “working on an unannounced project… more info coming in the future[.]”  Papy started work at Santa Monica in 2006, with job titles ranging from Design Director, Senior Designer, and finally Game Director. He worked on God of War II, God of War III, and God of War: Ascension.

Papy’s departure might be attributed to God of War 2 Game Director Cory Balrog’s return after a seven year absence. Balrog has teased that work has commenced on an ambitious PS4 exclusive. The God of War: Ascension staff has reportedly joined Balrog’s and God of War 3 director Stig Asmusen’s own teams.

Crytek have been busy themselves, which saw the developer’s Frankfurt, Germany division release Xbox One launch exclusive Ryse to mediocre reviews. Crytek UK is currently working on a Homefront sequel and a new free-to-play studio, called Warface, was recently opened by Crytek Kiev.
