ubisoft-logoTomb Raider’s parents did not have a great year in 2008 and all sorts of rumors circulated the internet regarding a possible acquisition of Eidos by Square Enix or even Warner Bros. Also, Electronic Arts and Ubisoft were also rumored to be interested in acquiring the company. However, none of these rumors were confirmed until now.

In a statement that was just released, Eidos confirmed that there are ongoing acquisition talks with an unnamed buyer: “The Board can announce that it has received a preliminary approach which may or may not lead to an offer being made for the Company,” the statement read. “Eidos emphasises that discussions are at a very early stage and that there can be no assurance that an offer will be forthcoming”

After disappointing sales of Tomb Raider: Underworld, Eidos revised down its revenue forecasts and announced that it might have to renegotiate bank finances, which further means that it’s not all clear and sound for the company, so it appears that an acquisition is the best thing to do. But with whom… that remains to be seen.
