No matter if you prefer gaming on an Xbox or a PlayStation console, the gaming TV you play on can ruin the experience or enhance it to the maximum. We’re here to share with you the best gaming TV for the money in 2017 and help you choose the right television for your gaming sessions without having to spend a fortune on it.
There is no single TV that can be considered “the best” for gaming since many things come into play when making the selection: from the size of the TV you are looking for to budget and personal preference. But with hundreds of TVs out there to choose from, doing research might seem like an impossible quest to complete. That’s why we did the heavy lifting for you: the research, the testing and the endless hours of gaming (oh, poor us!). And now we can share with you the best TV for gaming for the money!
Have in mind that a regular TV is usually not the best choice if you want to also game on it since you need better contrast, better colors and, very important, a great refresh rate and response rate so that you don’t waste a single second when gaming. With these in mind (and many other aspects we’ll talk about below), let’s check out the best gaming TV for 2017, no matter what’s the console you play your games on!
TCL 50FS3800 Roku Smart LED TV
If you’re on a really tight budget, you can still get a more than decent gaming TV if you buy the TCL 50FS3800 Roku Smart LED TV. This is, at the moment of writing, the best selling television on Amazon in the LED & LCD TVs category which says a lot about its popularity. And if we judge by the ratings (4.1 stars out of five from over 7,000 reviews) as well as our own opinion, we can easily agree that this is indeed a top TV for gaming that comes at a fraction of the price of better known brands.
This is a 50-inch Smart LED TV with full HD (1080p) resolution. It has a decent refresh rate – a Native 60Hz refresh rate coupled with 120Hz clear motion index (effective rate), meaning that you won’t be missing a thing when playing your favorite games. Another great thing about it is that it comes with a whooping 3 HDMI ports, so you won’t have to keep plugging cables in and out in order to switch between gaming consoles and video players.
Even though this TV understandably lacks the color intensity and quality of the more expensive TVs out there, it still does a really good job delivering clear, crisp colors and most people will have no reasons to complain about the quality of the colors after tweaking it a bit (like selecting the Theater Mode from the settings).
All in all, this is a really good gaming TV for the money and if you are on a tight budget, you should definitely consider this as your best option. As a bonus, this is a Roku TV which means that you also get more than 3,000 channels to stream online and very good WiFi capabilities.
Another very cheap option that delivers high quality! This is a smaller TV compared to the model above (it’s a 43 incher), but has some really great stats and delivers surprisingly good overall quality, so you should consider it if the size fits your room and taste.
It has a lot of goodies that gamers will love. For example, it has 4K Ultra HD capabilities, low input lag and a great refresh rate of 120Hz which means that you get an image that flows more naturally and you won’t miss anything important when playing your favorite games. Plus, your eyes will thank you a lot for this!
When it comes to colors and contrast, you will be pleasantly surprised with what this television can offer. Colors are crisp and beautiful, the shadows are great and high pure black levels ensure a solid quality even when in a brightly lit room. All in all, despite its size, this is a really solid TV that you will surely fall in love with, as long as its smaller size doesn’t bother you.
As a bonus, it has 4 HDMI ports – which should be just enough to plug in all your consoles and gadgets!
Samsung UN55KU6600 (Curved)
Although this TV could use some better input lag and a better refresh rate, it still is a great choice if you’re looking for a gaming TV on a budget. Even though it’s effective refresh rate is just 60hz and this concerns many gamers, it still managed to deliver great image with very little motion blur during the intense and fast sequences. It also offers you options to tweak it and improve it a bit, but we found out it’s working just fine without any extra tweaking. Especially since the tweaking itself won’t change things drastically.
But all in all this TV offers a fantastic value and overall great quality: you get a 4K UHD television with a 55-Inch display which is also curved to offer an improved experience to the gamer. Now I know curved displays are not preferred by everybody especially because of the limited viewing angle, but I had to share at least one curved TV since I personally like them.
The main thing that gamers care about when it comes to ports is the numbers of HDMI ones and the Samsung UN55KU6600 has 3 of them. It’s also one of the most popular choices on Amazon, and this says a lot about this product. And for its price, it can be considered a bargain, even though you’ll get a better value if you have more money to spend (but isn’t this the sad truth about all things in life?)
LG Electronics 60UH7700
It’s time to bring out the big guns – literally, as this recommended gaming TV offers an impressive 60-inch screen and some great value for the money!
Those who prefer better refresh rates will also be really happy to hear that the effective refresh rate of this TV is 240hz and delivers some of the most vibrant colors we’ve seen in a budget TV for a long time. It has 4K capabilities (and even upscaling from 1080p to 4K if you care about this), plus some really good black levels. There are really no reasons to complain when it comes to this TV and gaming – or doing anything else, actually!
It comes with 3 HDMI ports, which should be just enough for your consoles and/or PC and with a bit of tweaking (make sure to turn on Deep Color for the ultimate experience), your games will look fabulous on this TV and you’ll have no reasons to complain. Especially since the price is this low!
Hopefully you’re not a huge Xbox fan to completely ignore a Sony product, because this is a product well made! With a native resolution of 120hz and the Motionflow XR technology, your games will look incredibly well and there will be no motion blur while playing, even during the fastest and most intense scenes. It makes sense for Sony to make good gaming TVs since they’re in the gaming industry for so long.
But that’s not all! This 4K UHD TV has Sony’s Dynamic Contrast Enhancer which gives you amazing black levels and contrast and looks so good to the eye that you feel you’re there. You really have to watch the images on a Sony TV to know what I’m talking about. It is also humongous (we’re talking about the 65″ version here, but there are more options available if you want a slightly smaller or larger display).
In terms of HDMI ports, the Sony XBR65X850D comes equipped with 4 of them, including a surprising number of USB ports (3). It never hurts to have extra ports, for sure, but I doubt many people will actually use them all.
But ports aside, this is our top choice when it comes to a solid gaming TV. Although not too cheap, it’s not extremely expensive either and if you have the money, it’s worth it! A great overall TV, a great television for playing games!
LG Electronics OLED55C6P (Curved)
This is definitely not a budget TV, but I decided to share it with you anyways in case you might find a few (hundred) extra dollars to spend on it. It’s worth checking out as it is an amazing TV: on Amazon, for example, at the moment of writing, it’s close to a perfect rating (4.8 stars out of 5) based on over 100 reviews. You rarely see such amazing average ratings so that definitely says a lot about its quality!
And we say that it’s flawless too! We’re talking about a 55-Incher here (although there are 65″ models available as well if you have a spare kidney) that delivers outstanding image quality: we’re talking about an OLED HDR 4K Smart TV that’s simply one of the best OLED options on the market at the moment.
Its advanced technology ensures that you get the blackest possible black (or at least extremely intense blacks), while the colors will be brighter and absolutely beautiful. Pair that with great contrast, the Dolby Vision technology, a wide viewing angle (despite it being a curved TV) and you’ll get image quality similar to any modern digital cinema out there. And this is indeed impressive, although you do have to pay some serious money for this one.
These would be our recommendations. We are sure that we managed to cover all the bases and offer you not only amazing products, but great prices as well. Check the top gaming TVs above and make your pick based on your personal preferences and budget: we’re sure that no matter which one you pick, you will be extremely satisfied with the quality of the gaming TV you’ve found with our help.
