The third game in the RPG Shooter will be known as Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and is due to be released on Xbox 360, PC and PS3 later this year, 2K has announced. It is being primarily developed by 2K Australia with supervision from Gearbox Software.
The game will be a standalone game and will take place in-between the events of Borderlands and Borderlands 2, and will see you battling on Pandora’s moon alongside Borderlands 2 villain Handsome Jack as you watch changes into his tyrannical Borderlands 2 self and assisting with the rise of the Hyperion Corporation.
The game will feature four new playable characters to jump in as, each with their own unique abilities, and all characters that have appeared in the Borderlands universe before:
• Athena, the Gladiator: Uses her Kinetic Aspis, which is a shield that can absorb incoming damage, then convert it back into energy to use against enemies. Athena made her appearance in Borderlands DLC The Secret Armory of General Knoxx.
• Wilhelm, the Enforcer: Who was the first major boss character in Borderlands 2
• Nisha, the Lawbringer: Known for being the Sheriff of Lynchwood in Borderlands 2
• Claptrap, the Fragtrap: The first Claptrap you encounter in Borderlands, and the last surviving one in Borderlands 2.
The game will also feature a number of new features. Being set on a moon means there is now a low-gravity atmosphere, as well as oxygen being used as a resource like ammo to allow you to go out on the moon’s surface. You can also use the oxygen tanks as a small jet pack, allowing you to hover for a short time. Whilst hovering, you can also press the crouch button and unleash a ‘ground pound’ style move on enemies.
The game will also contain a new ‘Cryo’ element damage type, which slows down and eventually freezes enemies, which can then be shattered. There will also be a new laser weapon class as well as new vehicles to play with.
