colossusMost of the gaming world was disappointed to hear that a Shadow of the Colossus movie is being made, especially since the script was handed to a not too popular (at least in the gaming world) Justin Marks, the writer of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. However, thanks to a recent interview, we might have to change our mind.

Because Marks admitted that the PS2 title was impressive and it appears that he has plans for the movie to be likewise: “This is a game that catches you unaware – it catches you on an emotional and experiential level, not just for the puzzles you solve,” he said to the Hollywood Reporter.

With a lot of games you’re caught trying to please the fans and the mainstream audience,” he said. “What’s so nice about this game is that it’s all seen through such an adult lens, so that what pleases the fans also pleases a wider audience.”

That is indeed correct. He also addressed the “lack of characters” problem and he has plans to “fix” that too: “With a lot of games there are so many elements in the universe you spend your time tearing down and tearing down. What’s nice about this game is that it’s so sparse so you can start building right away.”

Let’s just hope that he won’t build too much, though. After all, the solitude was what made the Shadow of the Colossus game such a success and that’s the same thing that might shock the world in a movie. But are they up for shocking people and offer them a pleasant surprise? I doubt that, but we’ll see.
