Strangely, the most revolting thing regarding this Modern Warfare 2 announcement is the excuse: “The team’s focusing on having it very equal on every platform,” said fourzerotwo in defense of the outrageous move. Of course, we all know that they simply don’t have that much interest in the PC gaming scene – otherwise “very equal” would’ve meant that we, the PC gamers, would’ve received the Special Edition, too. But no, it’s only “very equal” when it’s us losing…
As expected, the announcement of the lack of dedicated servers for the upcoming shooter, as well as the lack of support for user-created mods had as a result tons of furious gamers. There is an online petition running already (with over 46,300 signatures at the moment of writing), asking “Infinity Ward to review their decision not to allow fully dedicated servers for their forthcoming game release CoD:MW2”. You can sign it too by following the link.
Funnily enough, DICE took advantage of this strange decision from Activision and said on their Twitter account that: “Dedicated servers FTW. What ever secures a better online experience is a given for us.” This will certainly bring some new Battlefield fans aboard, especially since Infinity Ward had no comments to make until now. Nor did Activision.
So we’re patiently waiting. My guess? Following this massive uproar, Activision and Infinity Ward will deliver a patch for Modern Warfare 2 a few weeks after the game’s release in order to allow for modding and dedicated server gameplay. There’s really no other possible way for them to do it…
What do you think about this whole situation?
