If your parents and friends were criticizing you because all you do is play DOTA all day, you have to show them this bit of news and start playing a bit more, maybe: Valve has just announced the first DOTA 2 tournament, “The International” – a competition that will take place during this year’s Gamescom in Germany between August 17th and 21st.

The nicest thing here? The winning team will receive $1 million. US Dollars. No bullsweet. Ahem.

Unfortunately, not everybody can take part at this amazing tournament: the 16 best DOTA teams in the world will be competing in this championship through a group stage followed by a double elimination playoff. There will be just one winning team which will become $1 million richer. That’s amazing!

“The International is the first public Dota 2 event and will give the tens of millions of gamers playing Dota around the world their first look at the new game,” said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. “I have had the good fortune to watch the competitors as they prepare for the tournament, and the level of play is extraordinary.”

Extraordinary that is – 1 million dollars as a prize for a game that hasn’t been officially launched yet. That’s a lot of advertising money!
