Top 6 Keycaps For Your Gaming Keyboards

Whether you want to game with efficiency or game in style, finding the right keycaps for your keyboard have always proven to be trial and error. However, in this article, we are going to give you a rundown of some of the best keycaps that will complete your setup.

Razer

First up on our list we’ve got the PBT Keycap Set. Over hours and hours of tapping away the face of the keys eventually develop this glossy look as the texture starts to fade. With the new PBT thermoplastic keycaps from Razer, they have a much more durable texture that lasts longer to provide grip and prevent you from fat fingering other keys.

The keys are crafted using “Doubleshot” moulding meaning the walls are thicker to withstand hard use and provide more satisfying keystrokes. The hard plastic and solid build make for an awesome typing experience. As for the aesthetics, the keys come in four different colours; Classic Black, Mercury White, Quartz Pink and Razer Green which are all backlight compatible so you can show off all your cool ripple effects.

The keycaps are cherry profile and compatible with all cherry-style switches available from other brands. They do cash in $36 per set but you pay for quality.

Funkeyzz

Next up we’ve got Funkeyzz and they are guaranteed to put the finishing touches on your gaming setup. Funkeyzz specialises in high-quality resin sculpted keycaps of our favourite anime and video game characters. You can browse a wide variety of anime keycaps such as Demon Slayer, One Piece, Naruto and Pokemon just to name a few! Not to mention gaming inspired keycaps from the likes of PUBG and Super Mario.

If you dabble in a bit of League of Legends and are looking for something a bit more low profile, they’ve got you covered. Their League of Legends keycap sets come with all of the champion ability, summoner spell and recall keybindings to spice up your MOBA controls.

The keycaps all come in a cherry profile and are compatible with any cherry-switch mechanical keyboard. If you’re new to replacing keycaps they also have a convenient little demo on their site to show you how it’s done. As for the sculptures, they are all sturdy, hand painted figures with that attention to detail and every nook and cranny.

A funky keycap from Funkeyzz costs around $20 a pop with free international shipping on orders over $30, so it’s the perfect opportunity to start a collection.

Corsair

Up next, we’ve got the Corsair Gaming PBT Double-shot Keycap set. The keycap set comes in two different colours black and white that are both backlit compatible so you don’t need to worry about covering up your RGB keyboard.

Again this set of keycaps is designed using a double-shot moulding process which increases thickness and durability for even the most intense of tapping. The keycaps are made from PBT similar to the Razer keycaps, a solid thermoplastic with hundreds of electronic uses. Here they provide long-lasting textured keycaps that won’t get worn down.

The entire set comes with all 105 keys at a price of $36.50 just a touch more expensive than the Razer PBT set but are both good price points for what they provide. A nice little kicker that Corsair throws in is a keycap remover to make the whole process of taking your keys off much easier. It can be a pain to manually pinch each key and pull it off so this is a nice little tool to have around if you find yourself renovating your keyboard often.

Republic of Gamers (ROG)

If you’re a MOBA or FPS player you might want to check out the ROG Gaming Keycap Set. Their keycaps cover the main conventional controls Q, W, E, R, A, S and D with their high quality textured keycaps. The set also comes complete with a metal alloy, 3D cut ROG logo keycap that can be placed anywhere to act as a nice showpiece.

Each of the functional keys has a coarse textured finish that allows you to immediately distinguish the controls without having to take your eyes off of the action. Their textured coating adds grip for better control and enhanced performance.

On the face of each key are red markings that when put together in the appropriate order on the keyboard reveal a ROG logo emblazoned across the seven different keycaps. All of the keycaps are backlit compatible but come with their own side lit design. The carefully etched cyber patterns along the side of the keys make for a unique light display when placed on an RGB keyboard.

Despite not being made from PBT the keycaps have a coating designed to increase durability and have a similar shelf life to traditional sturdy PBT keycaps. The ROG keycap set is compatible with Cherry MX switches so it’s ready-made to fit on a variety of keyboards. ROG generously throws in a keycap remover also but emphasises not to overuse as it could damage the coating with repetitive use.

The ROG keycap set costs $30.50, a decent price point for those who are avid MOBA and FPS players.

HyperX

We have HyperX to thank for the first set of pudding keycaps on our list. For those who are unfamiliar with keycap terminology, pudding keycaps are keys that have a translucent frame around the sides that allow for extra lighting to shine through, giving them that sci-fi glow we know and love.

The HyperX Pudding Keycap set comes with all 104 keys with a translucent double-layer pudding design. On the face of each of the keys is HyperX’s signature font for a sleek unmistakable finish. You’ll be pleased to know that the HyperX pudding keycaps are also made from PBT using double-shot moulding technology to provide you with that durability you’re after.

The thick walls of the keycaps make for better resistance to friction, wear and solvents in case you are to spill something onto your keyboard accidentally. This is great news as we wouldn’t want anything to ruin the design. The dual layer translucent design makes for stunning effects when placed on an RGB keyboard. The set comes in two different colours, black and white so variety is the only thing hurting these keycaps. However, they redeem themselves with a lower price point of only $30.40 for the entire set.

HyperX sweetened the deal by throwing in a stylish branded keycap remover for free which is just showing off now. The keycaps are cherry MX compatible meaning they will work with off-brand mechanical keyboards also.

SteelSeries

Last but certainly not least are SteelSeries PrismCaps. This set of pudding keycaps are also made from reliable PBT and double-shot moulding technology for that heavy use. The translucent lower layer design enhances the lighting display to allow brilliant RGB illumination.

One thing that sets SteelSeries apart from the rest is their selection of keyboard languages. SteelSeries offers keycaps suitable for US, UK and Nordic keyboard displays. Convenient for not having any confusing misinputs. Not to mention the set comes in three awesome colours, black, pink and white.

The PrismCaps are compatible with Cherry MX switches so they are suitable for most off-brand keyboards but it’s always good to check before ordering just in case. The set wouldn’t be complete without a keycap remover to safely swap each key so they throw this in for free. SteelSeries PrismCaps have a very appealing price point of only $21.91 while on sale so is certainly a very good bang for your buck.

So, hopefully, you’ve gotten some inspiration and an itch to kit out your keyboards after reading our list!
