Although sales were not as high as anticipated for Media Molecule’s “console seller” LittleBigPlanet, the game still sold enough copies to be granted Gold status by the ELSPA in the UK. This means that the game sold more than 200k copies in the United Kingdom only.
However, according to Edge Online, Sony’s game might go for platinum this year (300k-600k copies sold) especially because of constant advertising campaigns and continued interest from users. LittleBigPlanet has received praise from critics all over the world and it is the highest rated PlayStation 3 exclusive. LBP also made it to out top ten games of 2008 list.
However, high review scores did not mean huge sales for the game: upon launch, it debuted fourth in the top ten sales charts, behind Fallout 3, FIFA 09 and Gears of War 2 and seven days later it completely fell off the charts. Maybe 2009 will be a better year for the game!
