league of leagends

League of Legends is not your typical game. When you first start playing, you may find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the huge number of champions grimacing at you from the selected screen. However, you are not expected to master them all immediately.

Don’t panic!

Follow these fundamental basics as you embark on your League of Legends journey and you will be a master in no time!

The Fundamentals

League of Legends is widely regarded to be the number one team-oriented strategy game in the world. The ultimate goal of LoL is to work together with your teammates to bring down the enemy Nexus which is located in the middle of their base. The first thing you will need to do is set up your LoL account. There are many lol accounts for sale which can enable you to start out with powerful champions and with many of the items and maps already unlocked. This is great because more of the game’s features will be available to you straight away.

So, let’s break down some basics:

1. Champions

League of Legends is a 5 vs 5 game and each of the 10 players starts a match by choosing a champion from the list. They all have different abilities and powers as well as unique playing styles. There are currently more than 140 champions for you to choose from.

2. Summoner’s Rift

This is the standard map that you are likely to be spending most of your time on. The five players of your team are in the bottom left corner while the rival team is on the opposite side. You don’t have to master the League vocabulary overnight, but it is important to familiarize yourself with the general structure of Summoner’s Rift to be able to communicate with your teammates. It comprises 3 lanes and the area in between the lanes is called the Jungle.

3. Turrets and Inhibitors

Destroying turrets and other infrastructures called inhibitors can reward you with gold and allow the minion waves to push through to the base faster as there is nothing to stop them.

4. The Fountain

You’ll begin your game at the fountain and will also need to revisit it when you want to heal or purchase items. You will also respawn at the fountain when you die.

Tactical Tips to Stay on Top of your Game

As the Summoner’s Rift stays constant, the combination of champions that each player chooses can produce vastly different rhythms and feels.

1. Try out Different Champions and Positions

It’s not until level 5 that you can access the majority of gameplays. Before that point, don’t pressure yourself to figure out what character and position suit you most. The only thing you should focus on up to this point is to try out different options to see what feels best for you.

2. Look for Guides for your Favorite Heroes

With enough time and practice, you will start to discover that a champion’s abilities are useful in many ways. As you play with a champion and mess around with their abilities, research how professional players utilize their skills in streams or on YouTube.

3. Stay Behind your Minions

Minions are some amazing moving cushions that shield you from any kind of incoming damage, whether it’s from the opposing champions, towers or the rival minions. On a related note, don’t forget to check your nearby minions’ health bar, you don’t want to be the next candidate to sacrifice as soon as they all die.

4. Memorize the Hotkeys

Because things can really get savage in there, you’d better start developing your muscle memory at maximum speed. In a fierce fight, it’s important to memorize these key combos:

  • Q, W, E, R: Use your champion’s four main abilities
  • Alt + Q, W, E, R: Cast spell/ability on yourself
  • Shift + Q, W, E, R: Cast spell/ability at where your cursor is
  • Ctrl + Q, W, E, R: Level up your ability
  • Spacebar: Focus the camera on your champion
  • Y: Lock/unlock camera on your champion
  • G: Send pings to your teammates.
  • P: Open a shop window
  • B: Recall
  • Tab: Open stats window
  • F, D: Use your Summoner Spells
  • S: Stop whatever you’re doing
  • 1-6: Your items

Final Words

There are all sorts of questions that you will be asking yourself from the beginning, but it doesn’t mean you have to stress yourself trying to figure them all out overnight. LoL is not your typical computer game and you’ll need time to process everything that goes into the game. Just give it some time and all your hard work will pay off. Because at one time, all those streamers that you look up to could only one dream of being where they are now. See you on the Rift!
