The infestation has gone world-wide; Heart of the Swarm has been released yesterday by Blizzard Entertainment and fans seem to be extremely frenetic about the first expansion for StarCraft II. Blizzard has already stated their amazement about players’ satisfaction: “We’re absolutely thrilled to hear that you enjoyed Heart of the Swarm’s launch.”

Heart of the Swarm is a zerg dedicated expansion that “follows Kerrigan through a vengeance-fueled campaign with 20 missions”. New multiplayer units and a set of unique features have been added to the game as well. The campaign focus Kerrigan and as the plot goes on, she’ll grow tougher, as Blizzard refers: “Kerrigan will grow in strength from mission to mission, and players will be able to customize her with powerful new abilities, as well as evolve various zerg strains into fearsome new subspecies to suit their play style.” But that’s not everything; terrains and protross’ will be able to produce new units too. Additionally, numerous new multiplayer features will augment players’ experience: unranked matches and training versus A.I. will become a reality; group and clan systems will allow players to further organize themselves; the Global Play, establishes interactions between players in different regions around the world. Minor changes will occur as well, such as additional stat tracking and user interface improvements.

Blizzard Entertainment’s CEO, Mike Morhaime sustains that “Heart of the Swarm enhances every aspect of StarCraft II. In addition to Kerrigan’s campaign and the new multiplayer units and maps, we think players will really enjoy the new online elements and new features that make StarCraft II more fun and easier to learn than ever before.”
