Scratch will be set in a distinctive urban environment, according to Gamasutra and it will focus on DJ tricks and rhythm gameplay, planning to capture the vital energy of hip hop music. The turntable controller or the “Scratch Deck” will allow upcoming DJs to manipulate the tracks in real time and see their career go up the ladder in what appears to be a Rock Band game for hip hoppers.
“With the recent success of music-driven videogames and the dominance of urban culture in the youth market, the potential for Scratch is endless” said Jones. “Having spent 20 years as a music producer for artists such as Tupac, LL, and Ice Cube, it is rewarding to work with 7 Studios, Genius and Genco to ensure that there is authenticity in every detail of this game.”
It hasn’t been specified, though, which platforms will Scratch: The Ultimate DJ be released for, but it was noted that multiple next generation game systems are targeted. We’ll have new details soon, since the game is slated for a Spring 2009 release.
