EA Sports has announced that it is replacing Tiger Woods with Rory McIlroy as the series’ mascot and cover star for its next PGA Tour game.
Titled EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will be making its way onto PS4 and Xbox One in June, so no PC or last-gen version, it seems.
“I’m very proud and humbled to see my face and name on EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR,” said four-time Major winner McIlroy said. “This is a great honour, and something I couldn’t even dream of growing up playing the sport. I really hope people enjoy the game and I’m very glad I can be a part of it.”
Not only does the game mark the debut for McIlroy as the series’ lead star, it also marks the first EA Sports title to use the Frostbite engine. This eliminates the need for loading screens in-between holes by loading the entire course at once. The game will also be mixing both real-world courses and fantasy courses to enjoy.
Executive Producer for the game Brent Nielsen said: “Frostbite has allowed us to take this franchise to a whole new level. The new engine drastically improves all facets of the game, from core gameplay to opportunities for brand-new modes and features. We’re looking forward to sharing a lot of great news with our fans throughout the rest of the spring.”
