As I’ve already told you in a past article, the launch of the Final Fantasy XIV game was not one without flaws, as gamers had all sorts of problem with the game crashing and freezing. Also another problem of Final Fantasy XIV is the black screen that doesn’t let you play the game, especially when you log in. We’re trying to help you fix the Final Fantasy 14 black screen or blank log-in problem below:

1. Final Fantasy XIV Black or blank log-in screen
Apparently this problem appears to users having Internet Explorer active since FFXIV uses it as a default browser, especially if you have the security settings for the Internet Zone to High. Here’s what to do in order to lower it:

a) Change the security setting for the Internet zone to medium-high or lower
To do this, open IE and double click on the status bar on the bottom that should say something like “Internet | Protected Mode: On”. This will bring up a dialog title Internet security. Click on the internet zone and change the setting to medium-high or lower on the slider and click OK or Apply.

b) If you want a safer method, you can add the square enix website to the trusted sites: open IE and double click on the status bar on the bottom that should say something like “Internet | Protected Mode: On”. This will bring up a dialog title Internet security. Click on the trusted sites zone. Make sure the slider is set to medium-high or lower and click Apply if you needed to change it. Click on the “Sites” button. A dialog will pop up titled “Trusted Sites”. Uncheck the “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone” check box. Edit the entry field labeled “Add this website to the zone” to say “square-enix.com” then click on the add button. It should show up in the list below.

2. How to fix black screen in Final Fantasy XIV

This problem doesn’t seem to be connected with the browser itself, and it’s not clear how to fix it. Users on the official forum said that they managed to fix the black screen by setting the resolution of the PC to anything but the recommended resolution, then starting up the game to see which resolution works for them. It’s worth a try!
