Yep its very, very true. Take-Two has announced that Grand Theft Auto V has made over $800 million in just 24 hours. According to Take-Two this marks “the highest first day retail sales of any title in the history of the company and the Grand Theft Auto series.”

Take-Two was also kind enough to add that the game hasn’t even launched in Brazil or Japan yet. This is want the publisher had to say:

“All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto V,” said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. “Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry’s new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence. Beginning at midnight on Monday, consumers around the world gathered in anticipation to be among the first to experience the evolution of this remarkable series. In North America alone, more than 8,300 stores opened their doors at midnight to welcome fans whose loyalty and enthusiasm were rewarded with what The New York Times called ‘the most immersive spectacle in interactive entertainment’. We are incredibly proud of Rockstar Games’ creative achievement and could not be more pleased with the success of this launch.”

Analysts predicted that GTAV would make over $1 billion in its first month. It seems as though Rockstar and their sandbox epic are already 80% there. The game also cost about $266 million to make, making it the most expensive game ever made. Take-Two and Rockstar have already gained immense profits from sales, so their bloated budget proved to be a good choice.

GTAV is currently sitting on a Metacritic score of a 98, making it the best reviewed game of the year as well. GTA Online has yet to be launched as well, it will be available in 2 weeks and promises to offer GTAV’s game play mechanics in an open world populated by fellow online gamers.

Rockstar has done it again. GTAV is now available for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
