sims3-bestsellerEven though classic retail stores are losing ground really fast to digital download portals, the classic brick and mortar buildings still get a pretty decent piece of the pie when it comes to computer games. Below you can check out the list of the bestselling PC games in 2009, according to NPD data:

1. The Sims 3 – Electronic Arts
2. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King – Blizzard
3. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe – Electronic Arts
4. World of Warcraft: Battle Chest – Blizzard
5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – Infinity Ward/Activision
6. World of Warcraft – Blizzard
7. The Sims 3: World Adventures – Electronic Arts
8. Spore – Electronic Arts
9. Dragon Age: Origins – BioWare/EA
10. Empire: Total War – The Creative Assembly/Sega

It’s worth noting that these are retail figures only, meaning that the biggest share of PC game purchases (those made online) are not recorded. With that in mind we shouldn’t be too surprised to see that just $538 million were generated by the retail stores last year in the US (an impressive 23 percent drop from 2008). But in a world where you can order a coffee online and have it delivered at home, these numbers shouldn’t be too strange!
