Is DayZ Crossplay? Everything You Need to Know
Key Points:
- DayZ does not support crossplay, meaning players on different platforms cannot team up or join each other’s servers.
- Technical limitations like control differences, mods, and separate servers are major reasons DayZ hasn’t implemented crossplay functionality.
- There are no current plans for crossplay or cross-progression, so players must use the same platform to play together.
Introduction
Let’s be honest—nothing beats jumping into a game with your friends. Whether you’re building bases, exploring open worlds, or just trying to survive the night, it’s always more fun together. So, if you’ve been eyeing DayZ or are already deep into its harsh, unforgiving world, you’ve probably asked yourself: is DayZ crossplay?
It’s a fair question. After all, in 2025, crossplay is no longer a “nice to have”; it’s something many players expect. But DayZ has always done things differently; this topic is no exception. Let’s examine what’s possible, what isn’t, and why.
What is DayZ, Anyway?

If you’re new to the game, here’s a quick overview: DayZ is a hardcore, open-world survival game set in a fictional post-Soviet country called Chernarus, which has been hit by a deadly virus outbreak. The result? Most people are either dead or turned into dangerous infected.
You start with practically nothing, just the clothes on your back and some basic items. From there, you scavenge for food, water, weapons, and medical supplies. On top of that, you have to deal with other players, and that’s where things get tense. In DayZ, other people can help you… or kill you on sight. And death means losing everything. No respawn with your loot, just a fresh start.
It’s harsh, it’s realistic, and it’s precisely what many fans love about it.

So, Is DayZ Crossplay?
Let’s get right to the point: No, DayZ is not crossplay.
If you’re playing on Xbox, you can’t team up with your friend who’s on PlayStation. If you’re on PC, you’re on your server network. Each platform is isolated, and there’s no way to link up across them.
This can be frustrating if your gaming group is spread out across systems. Unfortunately, the answer right now is simple: you can only play with people on the same platform.
Why Isn’t DayZ Crossplay?

At this point, you might be wondering: “Why not? Other games figured it out.”
Great question. Here are the main reasons DayZ hasn’t joined the crossplay party:
1. Different Controls = Unfair Advantage
PC players use a mouse and keyboard, which is faster and more precise than a controller. That edge can mean everything in a game like DayZ, where timing matters and gunfights can be brutal. Mixing console and PC players would throw off the balance.
2. Modding on PC
DayZ’s PC version supports mods and custom content that players create and install. Mods can change gameplay, add weapons, or even overhaul entire maps. Console versions don’t support this, which makes things uneven. Bringing these two experiences together in a shared server would be messy at best and broken at worst.
3. Servers Work Differently
PCs are usually privately hosted, heavily modded, and have complete admin tools. Console servers, on the other hand, are more limited. That means even how the game runs under the hood differs depending on where you play.
4. Updates Don’t Always Drop at the Same Time
Game updates can hit PCs first and arrive on consoles later (or vice versa). If the game versions aren’t aligned, players on different platforms can’t play together even if they want to.

Could Crossplay Ever Happen in DayZ?
As of now, Bohemia Interactive has no official plan or announcement about crossplay support. They haven’t ruled it out forever but haven’t said they’re working on it.
That doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Some games that didn’t launch with crossplay eventually added it after players pushed for No Man’s Sky and Rocket League are great examples. But it’s worth noting that both games are structured differently and didn’t have the same hurdles that DayZ faces with mods, server setup, and gameplay balance.
So, while it’s okay to hope, you probably shouldn’t expect DayZ to get crossplay anytime soon.
What About Cross-Progression?

You might also wonder: “If I switch platforms, can I take my character and progress with me?”
Again, the answer is no. DayZ does not support cross-progression.
Your saved data, gear, and stats are locked to the platform you play on. You’ll start fresh if you’ve been grinding on Xbox and decide to jump to PC. There is no inventory transfer and no character carry-over. It’s a clean slate.
What Are Your Options If Your Friends Are on a Different Platform?
If you and your friends are split between Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, there’s only one real solution: get on the same system.
That means someone picks up a second copy of the game or even a new console. It’s not ideal, but if you want to play DayZ together, that’s what it’ll take for now.
Some players keep separate characters on different platforms, especially if they have access to a console and a PC. That’s a workaround, but it also means managing multiple characters and inventories.

Games Like DayZ That Support Crossplay
Some alternatives might interest you if you’re set on crossplay and survival gameplay. They’re not identical to DayZ, but they scratch the same itch:
- Rust (Console Edition)
You can play across Xbox and PlayStation. Like DayZ, it’s brutal, PvP-heavy, and about survival but with more emphasis on base-building.
- ARK: Survival Evolved
The Windows Store version on PC can crossplay with Xbox. Tame dinosaurs build bases and survive in a colorful but deadly world.
- No Man’s Sky
It’s more sci-fi than zombie apocalypse but still focused on exploration and survival, and it supports full crossplay.
- Minecraft (Survival Mode)
It has a different vibe, but you’d be surprised how intense survival mode can get when resources are low. Also has full cross-platform play.

Conclusion
So, back to the original question: Is DayZ crossplay?
No, it isn’t. And for now, it won’t be anytime soon.
But that doesn’t make DayZ any less of a unique experience. There’s nothing quite like creeping through a foggy forest, scavenging for supplies in abandoned houses, or running into another player and not knowing if they’ll help or shoot you.
DayZ is raw, tense, and absolutely unforgettable. And while it would be great to share that with friends on any platform, the current setup means you’ll need to coordinate where you play.
If crossplay ever arrives, it’ll be a game-changer. Until then, DayZ remains a hardcore survival journey best taken with teammates on the same system or solo if you’re brave enough.

Download Minecraft PE 1.21.131 APK for Android
Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.131 is a focused hotfix update — improved Spear combat, two important bug fixes, and better overall stability on Android. No new content, but a noticeably smoother experience.
Spear Knockback Improvement
The window during which a charged Spear attack can apply knockback has been extended. This makes combat feel more reliable — the attack now connects as expected without requiring pinpoint timing, especially useful when fighting multiple mobs at once.
Spear Animation Alignment
Charge attack animations now accurately sync with the Spear’s three gameplay phases: Engaged, Tired, and Disengaged. What you see on screen now matches what the game engine is actually doing — making combat more readable and reducing guesswork in fights.
Performance & Stability
Frame drops on mid-range Android hardware have been reduced. Memory handling improvements prevent sudden freezes during long play sessions. World loading and chunk generation are more reliable, reducing terrain “pop-in” when exploring or moving quickly.
Multiplayer Improvements
Backend updates improve session stability when players join or leave. Fewer disconnects and smoother synchronisation across Bedrock servers. Marketplace content and add-ons also load more consistently during multiplayer sessions.
Adventuring Time Achievement Fixed — The achievement no longer unlocks early. It now correctly requires visiting at least 17 biomes on PC, matching the intended design.
Marketplace Escape Key Fixed — Pressing Escape after using the Marketplace search now reliably returns players to the previous menu instead of getting stuck in a loop.
Add-on World Loading Fixed — A bug that triggered a “Block” error when loading or creating worlds with multiple add-ons installed has been resolved.
